Usher Schedule

Captain & Team Responsibilities

Each Team will have a Captain:

Each Captain and team will be designated for 10:30 am service on Sundays of each month throughout the year. The schedule is posted on the website. The church will already be open for early service. If there is no early service, the Captain will use the key to open the church prior to Sunday School. The ushers will lock up the church after the late service.

Each team member will need to find a substitute if he/she will be unable to serve the Sunday that he/she is scheduled.

GENERAL PROCEDURE

Prior to the Worship service:
1.  Ushers should arrive at church by 10:00 am. If there is an early service skip to step 4 below.

2.  If there is no early service, the Captain will open the building by 9:00 a.m. for Sunday School. Enter the building by the office.
This door will be unlocked. We do not want the building left unsecured – please do not come early to unlock and then leave unless there are others in the building.

3.  Set thermostats (air conditioning – 68 deg.; heating 68 deg.)
a.   Sanctuary – Do not touch thermostat unless there is a problem - The thermostats are programmed to come on as needed – the timer has been disabled. The program changes from heater to air conditioner as well so you should not need to adjust.

4.  Check to confirm bulletins are on the table by sanctuary entrance.

5.  Check bulletin for baptism and confirm with Mike that water is available if necessary.

During the Worship Service:

1.  Do not close doors at sanctuary entrance. Remain at back of Sanctuary so that you may offer assistance if needed.

2.  Be aware of available seating, problems in the sanctuary and people movement. Offer to help seat late comers or people who arrive after the church is full.

3.  Take worship counts carefully. Count should be made after everyone arrives. Count during the 1st hymn while congregation is standing. Put worship count in the offering plates.

4.  After Worship service, clean up anything left in pews. Put any registration cards in the offering plate. Do not start cleaning until 10 minutes after service is over.

5.  Communion Sunday:
     a.  Keep constant flow of people coming out of pews into aisles.
     b.  2 ushers will assist with serving communion and 2 ushers will stand in middle aisle to lead each pew.

After the Worship Service:

1.  All materials for the pews (white envelopes, pencils, attendance cards) are found in the podium where the bulletins are.  The pencil sharpener is in usher closet.

Pews:
·        Arrange hymnals. The Bible is in the separate part of the rack.
·        Remove any extra paper (bulletins, offering envelopes that are written on, notes, candy wrappers) from the racks and pews.
·        Look for any loose pencils in racks or pews. Place a pencil in each hole in the pew rack.
·        Check to see that there are about 3 white offering envelopes in each slot. Refill if necessary.
·        Check the clear attendance envelopes for attendance cards. There should be about 10 in each envelope. Also confirm that there is a pencil in each envelope. Refill if necessary.
·        Leave a note for the secretary in the offering plate if you see that we are running low on supplies. She will order more. She also prints the attendance cards.

2.      Secure the building:
    1. Lock all doors, turn off lights.
